FEBRUARY UPDATE FROM KIWANIS CLUB OF KIEV, UKRAINE

Hello Delaware Kiwanis!

We have finished our Christmas. Now Kiev very beautiful, on the streets a lot of snow. Me and my family like to walk at this time at the wood. This Sunday we shall have free days. We shall visit our parents they live far from Kiev. Near their house the old forest. Often deers has walking around the house, wild boars, wolves. But we have no problems with animals. When you communicate with the nature you feel in yourself a lot of force and pleasures. But we have also very difficult side of life in city in the winter. As we work with children and teenagers outside we have many problems with health. It is constantly cold diseases. Children with which we communicate demand to a lot of attention and cares. We constantly bring them to hospital, some of them has freezed hands.

Our Kiwanis club constantly helps with this work. Now each weekand together with our volunteers we make repair in the children's center where the homeless children will stay. We plan to open this center in May.

I am very glad that we have opened Kiwanis club in Ukraine. More and more people wish to support us. We acquaint Ukrainian people with our club and constant at our meetings we have 2 - 3 speakers. Our club mostly consists from people 30 - 50 year old. We plan to create a theatre and in this year we want to carry out the first children's festival for children from children's homes.

Now I have invite musicians and composers which will have an opportunity together with our club to make the program for festival. Our club would want that talents of children has begun to shine as brilliants.

I wish to tell one history. We have arrived to children's home at Christmas. One boy has called me to the room. Whether he has asked me to hear how he plays on a violin. I have answered yes, then he has taken a violin which have been wrapped up in a fabric, and began to make separate sounds. I have answered that he plays perfectly. The tutor of this boy has told that this child has found a violin at the attic of one village`s old house and every evening watches TV expecting the program where music of a violin sounds, and studies to play repeating that that he sees in these programs. His hands stood as at the professional violinist, but the child had no teacher, I have understood that played on a violin his soul, he played aspiring to be pulled out from a pain in which boy lived. When I left, the boy has came to me and have told: I shall be a violinist and you will hear me.

I have told about this to members of my club and we have decided to involve for this program all musicians. In fact to give the love more pleasantly than to receive. I am sorry my letter has turned out very long. After creation of Kiwanis club, my life was filled with big desire to serve other people. I also want to send the pictures from the Christmas meeting of our club .

Write please and thanks for your dialogue.
Lora Pavlenko.
(The President of Kiwanis Club of Kiev).
